    Longtime Embassy employees Gnean Maly (left) and Lay Thenghong (right) with today and during his previous assignment to cambodia  in 1999. Maly and Thenghong served as Embassy guards during the Ambassador’s earlier assignment to Phnom Penh, when he was the Embassy’s economic officer. All three have come a long way since then! Maly has risen to the rank of Shift Commander, supervising many other guards. Thenghong is one of the Embassy’s three telephone operators, answering calls in both Khmer and English. The Embassy is very proud of its nearly 700 loyal and hardworking Cambodian employees, a number of whom have been with us since the Embassy reopened in 1995!
